Contains a chapter "With Dickens In America" in which our hostess recounts various dinners and meetings with Dickens in Spring of 1870 as he was in America for what must have been his last reading tour before his death in June 1870. His health was by then deteriorating; April 19th describes "he had been taken lame the night before, his foot becoming badly swollen and painful. In spite of a skilful physician he grew worse and worse every hour, and when the time for the dinner arrived he was unable to bear anything upon his foot" Interior clean with no writing, marks or tears and all pages tight in binding, navy cloth covers crisp and clean.
