Printed using the coloured woodblock process known as Baxter Printing, by Benjamin Fawcett of Driffield, these bright and attractively coloured prints are often mistaken for chromolithographs. It has been noted that the printing is so subtle that it gives the appearance of a watercolour (Friedman, 1978). Do come down and pay us a private call some other time.' The 'points' she makes 'are just the kind of thing we want to know'. Salisbury did not 'go round the Hosue with the visitors, for I did not wish to embarrass the guides; but clearly there is a good deal more organisation needed before our machinery works smoothly'. He responds to a number of points, including one 'about people unlocking cupboards and climbing on stairs', and another about putting 'rather larger labels on the pictures'.…

Drawn on treated stones/slate and each colour added separately to build up the finished image, hence the finer shades and details lost in the reproductions. The image shows Lord Northbrook, Lord Granville, Lord Selborne and Lord Salisbury in the House of Lords and was printed on July 5th 1882. Measures 10.5 x 15 inches and landscape format, not the usual portrait shape. Under glass to the right there may be two edge splits, not sure, later 20th century Hogarth frame.
