Features six chapters titled as: "The Years of Preparation, 1836-1881; An Introduction;" "An Artist at the Crossroads; Tynemouth, 1881-1882;" "Maturity at Prout's Neck, 1883-1889;" "The Nineties; The Peak of a Career;" "The Man and the Artist;" and "The Final Decade, 1900-1910." Beam's biography remains an excellent study of Homer's career and, in particular, his years at Prout's Neck, Maine where the rugged scenery provided the inspiration for many of the artist's stunning seascapes.
