Soft cover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 3rd Edition. a paperback in good condition, not ex-library. There are no names, clean cream pages with darker edges, tight binding, uncreased spine and clean stiff card covers with slight dogears . Lucia is a delight! The humour is open and hilarious; sometimes it is sly and ironic. Always you want to know what happens next. They are comedies of manners, set in England during the 1920s and 1930s, mercilessly poking fun at the trivial pursuits and snobbery of the idle rich. Few of the characters are likeable, but that just makes their frantic attempts to clamber to the top of the social pile all the more entertaining. The queen of their society is Emmeline 'Lucia' Lucas, whom even her loyal friend Georgie describes as: "a hypocrite . . . a poseuse, a sham and a snob, but there was something about her that stirred you into violent though protesting activity, and though she might infuriate you, she prevented your being dull." Mapp and Lucia's titanic struggles over who shall be the social monarch of all of Tilling are in no way interrupted by WW2. Can Mapp flame the fires of scandal when Lucia serves illicit "marche noire" oranges; will Georgie achieve worldwide fame with his radio programme "Making the Most of Your Ration Book"? And NO SERVANTS - how will they cope? Please ignore abe's shipping estimate (based on a 1Kg book) as this weighs less and I will reduce shipping during checkout.
