The present compendium, prepared by an international group of research scholars, is the result of a project that was launched by the Fondation Royaumont following its acquisition of the library of the pianist François Lang (1908-1944). Following logically upon the contents of the first volume (Collectionner la musique : histoires d'une passion, 2010); this new volume focuses upon the question of the "collector-interpreter". The phenomenon of collecting, which has been central to the work of certain artists, is here illustrated, first, by a series of articles concerning, among others, the collections of Davitt Moroney, Robert Spencer, and Richard Bonynge, and second, by a series of portraits of collector-interpreters from the sixteenth century down to the present day including, among others, Adrien Smout, R. F. E. von Schönborn, Camille Saint-Saëns, and Alfred Cortot. L'histoire du collectionnisme appliquée à la musique constitue une thématique de recherche neuve. Elle est menée par un groupe international de chercheurs, à l'initiative de la Fondation Royaumont, depuis l'acquisition par celle-ci de la bibliothèque du pianiste François Lang (1908-1944). Faisant suite au premier volume (Collectionner la musique : histoires d'une passion, 2010), ce nouvel ouvrage aborde le thème du « collectionneur interprète ». Neuware - Ravel had limitless admiration for Debussy's famous orchestral work, going so far as to say in an interview that it was his innermost wish to die to the sounds of this 'unique marvel in the whole of music'. Since Debussy had himself already published a version for two pianos, Ravel in 1910 undertook an arrangement for piano 4-hands. It was published that same year by Fromont in Paris, and made an impact all of its own. We have been able to recruit Debussy specialist Denis Herlin as editor of this Henle Urtext edition, the first to evaluate all the available sources. The fingerings are by Andreas Groethuysen of the famous Tal & Groethuysen Duo.; L'admiration de Ravel pour la pièce pour orchestre de Debussy était sans limite. Dans une interview, il déclara même que son souhait le plus profond était de mourir au son de ce «miracle unique dans toute la musique». Bien que Debussy en eût publié lui-même une version pour deux pianos, Ravel entreprit en 1910 un arrangement pour piano à 4 mains qui parut la même année chez Fromont à Paris, offrant une lecture personnelle de l'oeuvre. Pour l'édition Henle-Urtext qui repose pour la première fois sur l'ensemble des sources disponibles, nous avons pu rallier la collaboration de Denis Herlin, spécialiste de Debussy. In einem Interview bekannte er sogar, sein innigster Wunsch sei es, dereinst zu den Klängen dieses 'einzigartigen Wunders in der gesamten Musik' zu sterben. Hatte Debussy selbst bereits eine Fassung für zwei Klaviere veröffentlicht, übernahm Ravel 1910 die Bearbeitung für Klavier vierhändig, die noch im selben Jahr beim Verlag Fromont in Paris erschien und eigene Akzente setzt. Für die Henle-Urtextausgabe, die erstmals alle verfügbaren Quellen auswertet, konnten wir den Debussy-Spezialisten Denis Herlin als Herausgeber gewinnen. Den Fingersatz übernahm Andreas Groethuysen vom berühmten Duo Tal & Groethuysen.
