Orange-pink boards are sun-faded and show small areas of light soiling. Minor wear to some edges. Main defect is the wear to the spine. While the boards are not separated, the paper covering the spine is mostly lost - faily easily repaired. No marks, NOT ex-library, no odor. Weight, 360g. Size: 9.75" by 13". Book.

Dramatic illustrations in color, depicting Sambo and the animals as cloth dolls, perhaps reminiscent of the golliwogs so popular in England before WWII. Complete, but with light wear, flattened wrinkles, and inconspicuous archival tape mends. Still, a good copy.

Rare hardcover edition bound in a decorated red cloth with circle title plate on front board. 8 full color plates. Unpaginated, but with 32 leaves between the endpapers. Text is also illustrated with black & white cuts and a yellow border to the edge of the paper. Binding is solid. Text is clean except for the occasional finger smudge along edges of leaf. Previous owner's inscription in ink on ffep. Boards and endpapers lightly dust soiled. Hardcover.

Last page has a short biography of the author, and gives details about the story's origin and this book's creation. States that this book is to be used in an educational setting, and the typeface has been chosen based on studies about how to develop "the correct eye movements." Children are also encouraged to color in the black and white illustrations. 14pp. 9 1/4" x 13" Edge toning on cover.
