Grüner 1763"] Second revised edition of Henrich Bernhard Rupp's flora enumerating and describing plants found around Jena and part of Thuringia. Rupp had initially studied medicine, but took up the study of botany under the influence of Johann Jacob Dillenius. Rupp [1688-1719] died young; this 1726 edition follows Rupp's first version, published in 1718. This desireable edition of 1726 is the definitive edition of his main work as he left it. Later, it was edited with additions by the great Albercht von Haller in 1745, ['Alberti Haller Flora Jenensis Henrici Bernhardi Ruppii, ex posthumis auctoris schedis et propriis observationibus aucta et emendata; accesserunt plantarum rariorum novae icones' (Jena, 1745)]. Carl von Linné (1707-1778) honored and commemorated his name and memory by the creation of the genus Ruppia of the family Ruppiaceae. (These are wigeonweeds or ditch grasses).
