A very smart, first edition of this illustrated work on skating, from The Badminton Library series, by J. M. Heathcote. First edition, in the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. 'The Badminton Library of Sports and Pastimes' is a sporting project edited by Henry Somerset, the 8th Duke of Beaufort which intended to cover all sports in a collection of works. This particular volume discusses skating, figure skating, curling and other similar sports. Written by J. M. Heathcote, C. G. Tebbutt, T. Maxwell Witham, Rev John Kerr, Ormond Hake and Henry A. Buck. With twelve plates and numerous other vignettes throughout by Charles Whymper and Captain R. M. Alexander. Collated, complete. With the pictorial bookplate of W. G. A. O. P. to the front paste down, and an ink inscription of W. A. Orde-Powlett, dated 1894, to the front endpaper. Orde-Powlett was the 3rd Baron Bolton, of Bolton Castle, York. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Externally, excellent, with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities and to the spine. The odd mark to the cloth. Bookplate to the front paste down and ink inscription to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean, with the occasional spot to the fore edge. Very Good Indeed. book.
