Original brochure, stapled. Condition: Gut. 50 p., 2 tables. With a dedication by E. W. Handley. - From the estate of the classical philologist Ernst Vogt, editor-in-chief of the journals *Rheinisches Museum für Philologie* (19591967) and *Gnomon* (19701999; co-editor from 1975). - Slight foxing, some wear, text in very good condition. - From the preface: The idea of a joint paper was suggested to us by Professor E. G. Turner, and we are very grateful to him and to Professor T. B. L Webster for encouragement and criticism while the work was in progress, as well as to other members of the Institute Seminar on Fragments of Euripides, who heard and discussed some of the results. JR is responsible for Part I of the paper, and is indebted to the Egypt Exploration Society for permission to publish for the first time some papyrus fragments from Oxyrhynchus which will appear in a future volume of Oxyrhynchus Papyri. Part I is concerned with the publication of the Oxyrhynchus fragments and their ascription to the Telephus of Euripides, together with P. Berol. 9908, a fragment of a copy of the same play which was formerly ascribed to Sophocles, 'Achaion syllogos. Part II (for which E. W. H. is responsible) attempts to review what is otherwise known of the Telephus, and to sketch a reconstruction in the light of the new evidence. A few tentative suggestions for supplements have been made, but we have tried as far as possible to avoid prejudicing any future discussion of the difficult problems which the new texts bring and for this and other reasons (among them the prospect of a new edition of the Greek tragic fragments), we have not aspired to produce a re-edited and rearranged version of what is left of the whole play, - Wikipedia: Eric Walter Handley, CBE (12 November 1926 17 January 2013) was a British classical scholar, noted for his work on the Greek new comic poet Menander. - John Rowland Rea, FBA (1933 2023) was a British papyrologist. He was lecturer in Documentary Papyrology at the University of Oxford from 1965 to 1996. Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 250.
