Condition: Very good. - The last brief 4-lines of a letter penned by the artist on 2-7/8 inch high by 3-7/8 inch wide paper clipped from the bottom of a letter. Signed "Paul J Naftel". The autograph is mounted with glue from the verso onto heavier stock clipped from an album. Very good. The Guernsey watercolor painter Paul Jacob Naftel (1817-1891) was the only Guernsey-born professional painter of the 19th Century. A self-taught artist, he went on to teach at Elizabeth College on the island. His paintings of Queen Victoria's visit to Guernsey brought him attention and prints of his paintings of the tour were published in "The Illustrated London News". A prolific artist, he produced over 1,000 works. Naftel moved to London in 1870. His solo exhibition at the gallery of the Fine Art Society was well regarded. Both Rose Maynard Barton and Mildred Anne Butler studied under Naftel.
