Eliot, è «second only to Shakespeare»; a dire di alcuni contemporanei, a tratti addirittura superiore al Bardo; gli specialisti lo definiscono «our other Shakespeare». Dopo alcuni importanti studi di qualche decennio fa, questa monografia è la prima in Italia dedicata all'opera di Thomas Middleton.
