Condition: Sehr gut. Original cloth bindings in original illustrated cloth boxes; the cloth boxes show signs of use and the cloth spines of the boxes are usually rubbed. The books itself are all in very good condition and, save for vol. 1, probably never really opened. Small damages, if any, are mentioned in connection with the description of the volumes: vol. 1: 1986, vii, 93 pp. plus 305 pages of plates. vol. 2: n.d., 366 pp., spine a bit damaged. vol. 3: 1990, 361 pp, rear cover of box damaged. vol 4: 1990, 470 pp. vol. 5: 1990, 487 pp. vol. 6: 1987, 428 pp. vol. 7: 1988, 302 pp., colour printing on spine is flaking of at the edges of small red printed area. On instruction of the Chinese Government the group of Experts, consisting of Cie Ziliu, Qi Gong, Xu Bangda, Yang Renkai, Liu Jiu`an, Fu Xinian and Xie Chensheng examined private collections "confiscated during the decade of turbulence", i.e. the Cultural Revolution, as well as of major museums. The major works documented during this campaign are published in this series. All the books consists mainly of plates showing hundreds of the finest artworks form China in good b/w illustrations. Introductions in Chinese and English, plate captions in Chinese only. Very scarce as a run.
