A bestseller upon release, Samson's only novel fell out of print and into relative obscurity after her death from brain cancer shortly after publication, but has seen a bit of a resurgence in recent years with its inclusion in Hendrix's Paperbacks from Hell series from Valancourt and this subsequent Suntup edition. An allegory for facism landing somewhere between Shirley Jackson and Stephen King, the novel watches a small rural New Hampshire town whose inhabitants slowly lose themselves in their donations when the titular charismatic auctioneer comes to town. Signed.
