Écrites en octobre 1952 par Pierre André Benoit pour une exposition de 66 minuscules en la Galerie Jean Loize à Paris, ces Notes hâtives ont été imprimées le 14.1.1989 à 14, I, 9 exemplaires pour le plaisir de quelques amis et aux dépens d'un amateur. Le texte est enluminé par six artistes avec qui PAB a collaboré à ses éditions : Goetz qui avait collaboré au numéro 7 de Ma Revue en 1952 ; James Guitet qui a réalisé 15 lives avec PAB entre 1984 et 1993 ; Charles Marq avec qui il en réalisa 2 en 1970 et 1983 ; Dagmar Martens avec qui il en réalisa 1 + 1 numéro des Dimanches de Rivières en 1987 ; Brigitte Simon 3 livres en 1968 et 1970 ; et Hans Steffens une quinzaine de livres et participations aux Dimanches de Rivières entre 1984 et 1991. Exemplaire 4/9 justifié au crayon et signé par PAB au colophon ; signé au crayon par tous les artistes sous leur gravure. Texte très important sur la philosophie éditoriale de PAB dans les années 50. Nous joignons à cet exemplaire le double feuillet d'invitation 66 minuscules de P. A. Benoit à la galerie Loize en 1952 avec le texte de René Char (voir photo) Extraits : « Ces petits livres ne riment à rien, c'est ce qui me ravit. Leur gratuité me récompense bien au-delà de ma peine. . Ce n'est rien, ce rien qui ouvre les portes d'un autre monde C'est sans importance et ne pèse pas. . Si un poème et un tout il mérite d'être imprimé seul, de constituer un livre. . La succession des pages n'ajoute rien à la recherche (elles se multiplient au gré du texte avec la monotonie de la stricte obéissance). . Voilà une partie de mes jeux imprimés, la plus insignifiante et pourtant la plus significative. . Une toute petite page cache bien la recherche qui généralement éclate sur une grande surface. . Il est plus facile de se cacher dans une petite chose que dans une grande. Si l'on est découvert, ce n'est que pour l'oeil averti dont on n'a pas à craindre le viol. . On ne peut guère parler de la vanité de ces petits objets, ils sont trop près du néant et restent si peu visibles. . Je ne souhaitais pas que l'on montre ces amusements, ils perdent tout ce qui faisait leur charme : une intimité amoureuse. . Une page, et à plus forte raison quand c'est celle des titres, est un tableau. Elle est un équilibre et une économie. . On attache trop d'importance à l'effet qui n'est qu'une illusion et non à l'objet, pour lui-même, puisqu'il existe. . N'est-ce pas une invitation au jeu, à la recherche de ce qui est le plus oublié en nous : l'enfance, à la reconnaissance de ce qui est humble et discret, naïf et prometteur N'est-ce pas, si on a l'âme à fleur de peau, une invitation à l'enchantement, n'est ce pas tout simplement une évasion à la mesure de ces livres. » Oct. 52 [PAB] Très bel exemplaire.
