Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Large square format black and white photographic album featuring the superb railway photography of Colin Gifford. The title is taken from the Robert Louis Stevenson poem "From A Railway Carriage" and the sequel, published some 24 years took the next part of the line, ".and gone forever". Almost more an early 1960s social and topographical commentary as many of the photographs feature the train or locomotive in the landscape or in an industrial area showing just how much has changed or disappeared in the 50 odd years since photographing. But also for the enthusiast, locomotive classes and numbers are also identified. Although dated 1970 and confirmed by the ISBN I think this is a second or maybe even third printing as the first two did not have a dustjacket.
