Blankenship, an Amazon Hall of Fame Top 100 reviewers describes this book with 5 out of 5 stars: ?Old But A Well Done Book Of Children's Games.? He goes on, ?Card Games for Kids which was compiled and illustrated by John Giannoni, was published in 1974 with a reprint in1979. ? this particular work is getting pretty hard to find these days, which is a pity as it is actually quite good, both textually and the wonderful illustration. The book consists of 22 easy to learn card games suitable for children (of all ages). It includes games such as Clock Solitaire, Elevens, Pairs Snap, Split, Battle, Coon Can, Quince, Hearts, Go Fish, Memory, Rummy, Donkey, Beggar My Neighbor, Stops and New Market. Some of these games have been around for literally hundreds of years, and I suppose with computers and game machines, the simple act of playing a game with real people may be out of style at this time. This is an absolute pity. Board games, card games and their ilk have been a standard since ancient times. Fewer are being played now with the electronic games competing heavily for people's times. It is my opinion that we are losing a lot. Some of the best memories I have from childhood, is playing with family and friends, late into the evening, games such as are represented in this work. The directions for the games in the book are simple and to the point. The author has provided ample illustrations to enhance the text. Very few would not be able to understand the rules of playing methods after reading this. Small children may need adult help, but the older child should have no problems with understanding.?

Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. This important scientific volume comprehensively explores the biology and ecological status of manatees and dugongs in all of the geographic regions where they can be found today, from the Caribbean to Eastern Africa, from Arabia to the Amazon, and from Japan through the South Pacific to Australia. Many of these dwindling populations are situated in developing countries--locales that have previously received little attention in the scientific literature. In these areas, people occupying rivers or coastlines still capture sirenians for food and other uses (oil, bones for carving, leather). In addition, disruption, erosion, or complete loss of sirenian habitat occurs because of dredge and fill, coastal run-off, chemical pollution, and damage from boat propellers.Sirenian Conservation features contributions from an international group of scientists who are working to address the many challenges to manatee and dugong food supply, environment, reproduction, and survival. They share stories of programs that rescue, rehabilitate, release, and monitor these animals; offer reports on practical, replicable, and cost-effective management techniques; and summarize current research strategies. Comprehensively explores the biology and ecological status of manatees and dugongs in all of the geographic regions where they can be found today, from the Caribbean to Eastern Africa, from Arabia to the Amazon, and from Japan through the South Pacific to Australia.
