CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The author served nearly four years with the 6th Texas Cavalry of Ross's Texas Brigade. During 1861 and 1862, the regiment served in the Indian Territory, Arkansas, and Missouri. For the remainder of the war, the unit was attached to the Army of Tennessee fighting east of the Mississippi. Garrett's letters were written to his sweetheart, Elizabeth Gibbard, and William Gibbard, his future father-in-law. Covering the period from September 17, 1861, to March 14, 1865, the author gives a running commentary on camp life, rations, weather, diseases, generals, slackers, etc. A limited edition volume; scarce in the first edition.
