Spiral bound. Condition: Very Good. First Edition, First Printing (Assumed). 7 1/2 X 8 3/4 Inches. 188 PP + Tables & Ads. Original "Teacher in Space Cookbook" issued prior to the January 28, 1986 Challenger tragedy. President Ronald Reagan announced his search for a "teacher passenger" for a Shuttle mission on August 27, 1984. Thousands of teachers applied for the spot that was given to New Hampshire teacher Sharon Christa McAuliffe. This cookbook was simply a project put together by one of the applicants, Bonnie Fakes, in an effort to have all of the state finalist teachers add a recipe in celebration of their achievement. Christa has two recipes printed. Interestingly, Astronaut Jake Garn and Challenger Commander Dick Scobee also have recipes included. Full page celebration of the winner, Christa McAuliffe, at front. We believe that this book was printed at least once prior to the Challenger disaster (this one). We also believe that at least one later edition was printed with added information on the disaster itself. Original comb binding. Covers a bit worn at corners. Table of Contents page has pulled apart at top few rings. A nice copy of a scarce book. OCLC locates four copies (LOC, Nashville Public Library, Virginia Tech and Ohio State University).
