Es para ellos el dios mayor del Parnaso espanol.La poesia de Garcilaso de la Vega, tuvo tres etapas: la castellana, en que escribe sus poemas octosilabicos;la italiana o petrarquista, en que, influido por Francesco Petrarca, escribe sus sonetos y canciones en forma de cancionero petrarquista dedicado a la dama Isabel Freyre;y la etapa clasicista o napolitana, en que, influido por los poetas clasicos latinos y por sus nuevas amistades napolitanas, escribe elegias, epistolas, eglogas y odas, algunas de ellas en latin.Los Poemas de Garcilaso de la Vega (1501-1536) aparecieron en una edicion de su amigo Juan Boscan y publicada en 1543 por la viuda de este.
