Add to basketRare original black and white photograph of Eleanor Roosevelt with three Indian dignitaries Jahwaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Vijaya Pandit at the Franklin D. Roosevelt gravesite at Hyde Park. Nehru is seen solemnly placing a wreath on the monument, while Gandhi, Vandi, and Eleanor Roosevelt look on. Boldly signed by all four dignitaries beneath their respective image. Dated on verso in an unknown hand, October 16, 1949. After Franklin D. Roosevelt passed away on April 12, 1945 in Warm Springs, GA, and after the state funeral he was transferred and laid to rest in the rose garden of his Springwood Estate in Hyde Park, NY. A plain white marble monument marks the grave, andÂEleanor would join him there in 1962. In near fine condition. The piece measures 10 inches by 8 inches. Jawaharlal Nehru (21889-1964) was a British-educated lawyer and Indian nationalist, and was the political heir of Mohandas Gandhi. Nehru eventually served as the 1st Prime Minister of the Dominion of India from 1947-1950, and later as the 1st Prime Minister of the Republic of India from 1950-1964. Indira Gandhi (1917-1984) was the first female Prime Minister of India from 1966-1977 and again from 1980-1984 until her assassination at the hand of two of her bodyguards, Sikh nationalists. Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit (1900-1990) was an Indian politician and diplomat who became the first female cabinet member in 1937. After India became independent in 1947, she represented the country as ambassador and as head of the Indian delegation to the United Nations, serving as the first female president of the UN General Assembly.
