Bound in yellow cloth covered hard boards with black lettering and decoration to spine and upper cover. A detailed description of bridges in China with diagrams and black and white photographs. From the Introduction: "The countless old bridges leading over creeks, canals and canyons in the eighteen provinces of 'China proper' stand today as a memorial of the superiority of Chinese civilisation over that of all other nations in Asia. Travellers in ancient days as well as those of today have all concurred in the their admiration for the beauty and utility of Chinese bridges." The author, Fugl-Meyer was a Danish engineer in charge of the Construction Department of the Whangpo Conservancy Board, Shanghai during the 1930s. Nibble to the leading edge of the upper board with loss to about 1.5cm of cloth. Clean and bright within, no foxing or spotting, no previous owner marks. Front board bowed. Overall a solid Good condition copy.
