First edition. Alongside Vanessa Bell, Grant and Fry were the key artists of the Bloomsbury group and co-directors of the Omega Workshops. Grant's "daring innovations quickly earned him a leading position among avant-garde artists in Britain. His eclectic sensibility derived ideas from many sources, which he employed with great imaginative freedom" (ODNB). It was intended as the first instalment in the "Living Painters" series, however no further volumes were published. Woolmer 31. Quarto. With 24 half-tone photographic plates reproducing Grant's paintings. Original light brown quarter cloth, paper spine label, light brown board sides with front cover lettered and decorated in black by Grant. Binding lightly toned, label rubbed affecting a couple letters, surface scratches to rear cover, wear to extremities, light foxing to edges, minor marks to contents. A very good copy.
