While mainly intended to illustrate, describe and advise on fly tying of 165 classic examples of salmon flies, listed alphabeticall by name and each shown in a full colour photograph, this impressive volume has other ereas of interest. It also explains how accomplished anglers and fly makers practiced and honed their skills in both fields, and covers other historical aspects of the sport. Complementinmg the photos of the "classic" flies are contemporary illustrations from well known fishing books and publications from the past. Near the front is a large, full colour diagram of a typical fly, naming its many component parts and their tying sequence. Most of the flies illustrated were first tied in the late 1800s or early 1900s. 200 pages including bibliography, suppliers of materials and index, illustrated throughout, mainly in colour. red hard covers, with gilt front titles and large gilt fly plus gilt spine titles are VG+ with unobtrusive small impression lower front edge and three small dents to front board, ink gift inscription top edge front pastedown, otherwise internally excellent. Colour pictorial DJ is VG with nine colour flies to front, (The imperfections noted above are also on the jacket and appear to have be caused when packaged.)
