Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. THE BOOK OF JONAH & THE BOOK OF RUTH JEWISH PUBLICATION SOCIETY OF AMERICAN 1953 & 1957. These two books, identically presented and published, were decorated with original woodcuts by Jacob Steinhardt and with calligraphy by Franzisca Baruch. These two large but slender hard cover books (10 ½ x 13 ½ unpaginated but about 50 pages each, half in English and half in Hebrew were published by The Jewish Publication Society of America of Philadelphia, dated 1953 (Jonah) and 1957 (Ruth). The books are bound in beige cloth with embossed symbols styled after the woodcuts of their paper dust jackets (please see the photos). Condition: These two books are in good condition. The dust jackets show considerable wear and tear, especially that of Ruth. The hard covers have been slightly bumped at the corners and spine tips but nothing extreme. The dust jacket for the Ruth book is also lightly soiled and darkened on the margins. Inside, the books are unmarked and the pages are clean and bright throughout, without toning or foxing. All the hinges are intact and the bindings are tight and sound. These books are not ex-library or remainders.
