Frantisek Drtikol (1883-1961) gilt als der erste tschechische Fotograf von internationaler Bedeutung. Sein fur kurze Zeit in Vergessenheit geratenes fotografisches Werk wurde 1972 durch eine legendare Ausstellung von Anna Farova in Prag wiederentdeckt. Der aufwendig gestaltete Bildband widmet sich der Aktfotografie, einem Schwerpunkt der Arbeiten Drtikols. Seine fruhen Fotografien, in denen er seine Akte abwechselnd als Traumnymphe oder Femme fatale inszeniert, sind stark vom Jugendstil und Symbolismus beeinflusst. Nach dem Ende des Ersten Weltkriegs entwickelte er einen eigenen faszinierenden fotografischen Stil, der von geometrischen Elementen, expressiv-dynamischen Posen und dramatischen Lichtinszenierungen gepragt ist.
