Contact seller5-star sellerFull title: "THIRD ANNUAL REPORT OF THE AGRICULTURAL BUREAU OF THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE, INSURANCE, STATISTICS, AND HISTORY. 1889-90." i-xxiv, 1-404 pages. Hardcover: H 23.5cm x L 15.75cm. Original dark pebbled cloth rubbed with strong staining; three small chips along front joint; spine ends frayed with board corners worn;… gilt spine lettering barely legible. Missing front free endpaper and front flyleaf; first leaf present is the book's title page. Book concludes with page 404 (last page called for in Index) and lacks rear free endpaper and perhaps a rear flyleaf; some splitting evident to rear hinge. Occasional light foxing upon interior leaves; strong brown stains at top right corner of rear pastedown. Features county-by-county statistics for 1889 with a particular emphasis upon county products and value of food crops. Intriguing later sections offer tables of agricultural statistics (pages 279-306), economic statistics (pages 307-313), social statistics of marriages and divorces for 1889 followed by election and state office-holder information (pages 315-321), criminal statistics (pages 323-330), etc. Among a section of rear text regarding Texas public education are several full page b/w illustrations showing Texas A&M, the University of Texas, the blind asylum, the deaf and dumb asylum, as well as an image of the state capitol. Only a fair copy but apparently scarce if not rare for OCLC does not cite any copies among member libraries (certainly unusual for a state government publication) although the University of Texas online library catalogue does cite a complete run of early volumes. OCLC cites the series title as "Report of the Commissioner of Agriculture, Texas Agricultural Bureau.".
