Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good Minus. Limited Edition. Stated First Edition. Limited Edition of 500, this copy is number 393. The book is described as 'A tribute to Barry M. Goldwater on the occasion of his retirement from the United States Senate, Washington, D. C., September 9, 1986.' Once listed, this will be the Only copy of this book for sale on the Internet that Barry Goldwater, Jr. has signed. The inscription is on the title page. It reads: To Deanna-- The future is fast becoming the past. The best always, Barry Goldwater Jr., 9/10/86.' Barry Goldwater Jr. is a former Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from California, serving from 1969 to 1983. He is the son of U.S. Senator and 1964 Republican presidential nominee Barry Goldwater. You can see the covers of the book in the photos. They are quite clean. The cover edges and corners are in excellent shape, no rubbing. The gilt lettering on the spine is nicely bright. The spine edges are in very good shape. The page edges are very clean. The book has a slight to moderate rear-ward lean, but the book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The pages are exceptionally clean. Scrolling through, I'm not finding any instances of soiling. There is a 1 inch crinkle/crease off the top edge of the first thirty something pages. It diminishes as the pages move forward. I didn't see any other creasing. There are no turned-down corner creases or placeholder creases. There are no markings in the book. There are no attachments of any kind. And Congressman Goldwater's signed inscription represents the only writing be found anywhere. There are eight pages of photographs (16 sides, 27 photos). The first six pages present family photographs. The last few show the senator with Lyndon Johnson, Everett Dirksen, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Ronald Reagan. All of the photographs are in excellent condition. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. It is in solid shape, pretty clean, some light, smooth scuffing. The flaps look very good, clean, no conspicuous wear, a few crinkles. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. I have always had it in a fitted protective cover. From the dust jacket: 'If Barry Goldwater had any premonitions in 1949 about his future in politics, he kept them to himself. As it turned out, his comment ('It ain't for life, and it may be fun') was both right and wrong: it seems to have been fun, but it has been for life. When the senator retires from governmental service, he will have left behind an admirable legacy of conservative thought and practical legislation. This book lucidly demonstrates the people and events that provided the foundation for Barry Goldwater's philosophical stance and personality. The Goldwaters are legendary figures in Arizona, and through Barry, the Goldwater name is known throughout the world. This book portrays them as they were, and are: down-to-earth, caring, achieving, failing-- and above all-- interesting human beings.'. Inscribed by Author(s).

Hardcover. Condition: As New condition. Dust Jacket Condition: As New dust jacket. First Edition. New York:: P.A.L. Publishing Co., 2001. A beautiful, pristine copy -- clean, square, and tight. Sharp corners. The Dust Jacket is bright and shiny. No rubbing. No chips. No tears. No creases. No bookplate. No remainder mark. Pages are fresh, crisp, and unmarked. Recounts van Breda Kolff's basketball playing career with the New York Knicks, and his coaching career in high school, college (Lafayette, Hofstra, Princeton) and professional basketball (Los Angeles Lakers, Detroit Pistons, and New Orleans Jazz). Includes details of his relationships with Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, etc. Illustrated with numerous b/w photographs. Bound in the original red leatherette, lettered in shiny gold on the spine and front cover. From the Dust Jacket: "The arrival of 'Wilt the Stilt' Chamberlain in Los Angeles created one large 7 foot headache for Coach Butch van Breda Kolff. Whereas Elgin Baylor and Jerry West, both legendary superstars, responded positively to Butch's 'hands on' coaching policies, Wilt resisted the advice and instructions of his new coach. Although the Lakers advanced to the finals of the NBA for the 1968-1969 season, Butch recognized the conflict with Wilt and dealt with it as best he could. But in the NBA play-off game, with the series tied at 3-3 and the Lakers playing poorly, Wilt took himself from the game claiming an injured leg. Butch replaced Stilt with Mel Counts and the Lakers closed the deficit to one point. When Wilt wanted to reenter the game, VBK denied him entry and told him to 'sit down.' The Lakers subsequently lost 108-106, Butch was the scapegoat, and his career as Coach of the Lakers was over. Subsequently, he took on the Detroit Pistons and the New Orleans Jazz as potential turn-around situations. He instantly improved the records of both franchises, but confrontations with club-owners who seemed forever critical of his life-style eventually led him away from the NBA. He returned briefly to coached at the College level where he led the University of New Orleans to a Sun Belt conference title. Then, he coached the New Orleans Pride, a woman's professional team.".
