Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Flint, Sir William Russell. Works by Sir William Russell Flint, R.A. London: Royal Academy of Arts Diploma Gallery, 1962. Paperback catalogue, VG. Illustrated blue card covers with light shelfwear to edges and corners. 64pp., with colour and b/w reproductions. Contents clean and bright. Sir William Russell Flint (4 April 1880 30 December 1969) was a Scottish artist and illustrator who was known especially for his watercolours of women. He also worked in oils, tempera, and printmaking. He enjoyed considerable commercial success but little respect from art critics, who were disturbed by a perceived crassness in his eroticized treatment of the female figure. Flint was active as an artist and a writer until his death in London on 30 December 1969. RightWayUp Books aims to provide accurate and detailed descriptions. About the book >.>.> Very few living artists have held the affection and touched the imagination of so large a public of all classes for so long a time as Sir William Russell Flint. At the age of eighty-three, and still working with the vigour and enthusiasm of a young man, the artist can look back on fifty years of international acclaim. Printed appreciations of his work during half a century would fill volumes, but for the purpose of this collection sixteen extracts have been assembled, and it is remarkable that from the earliest, which appeared in The Studio for January 1914, to the one in The Daily Telegraph for April 1963, the attitude is unanimous in recognising the essential qualities of the artist's genius-a love of beauty and the reso lution to express it with idealistic perfection. This booklet has its art-historical significance, though Sir William consented to its production with becoming diffidence. (LL).
