[10]1-85p. Profusely illustrated with 70 black and white captioned photos. Decorated title page. Black cloth with gilt letters on the front cove and the spine. Just touches of wear to extremities, top of spine showing signs of wanting to fray, all gilt bright, minor dampstain at very bottom of spine and on the endpapers, some transfer from boards to endpapers, all illustrations in fine condition, else near fine to fine with no internal markings. No dust jacket. Daniel Johnson Fleming [1877-1970] was a Presbyterian missionary in India and Professor of Mission in Union Theological Seminary, New York. His papers are housed in Columbia University Libraries. Extensive narratives included in this book include the following: Indigenous Christian Painting," Spreading the Silk" in China, Old Techniques for New Themes in Japan, Painting the "Hymn of the Lord" in India, Christian Art in Africa, and From All Nations. This is a standard and authoritative work on Christian art in Asia and Africa which showcases the art of leading artists in these areas.
