Tan paper b/w illustrated bookplate utilizes column design per flared plinth and capital but with vertical pillar overlaid with long feather ascending from heel with pile of books and skul…l atop an image of the Earth. "Ex-Libris" boldly printed immediately above the column's capital with "Leon D'emo" discreetly printed in a small font immediately below the column's plinth and owner "Terry West Allen" printed in a larger Germanic-style font several millimeters below the plinth. Bookplate presumably contemporary to the battered book from which it was removed - a 1905 first edition of Booth Tarkington's "The Conquest of Canaan." Book/bookplate acquired from a Columbus, Mississippi estate but with no known family connection to Terry West Allen and no further provenance available. A Google search turns up a World War I veteran of the same name born 12/30/1883 and died 08/26/1965 who is buried at Shiloh National Military Park so, as that establishes some geographic proximity, perhaps that individual is a possibility.
