Guillermo Evaristo Méndez, known as Evar Méndez (Mendoza, November 14, 1885 - Buenos Aires, December 22, 1955), was an Argentine poet and theater and music critic. He was the founder and director of the magazine Martín Fierro, both in its brief first period and in the second. Many of the most renowned Argentine writers collaborated in the magazine: Jorge Luis Borges, Oliverio Girondo, Raúl González Tuñon, Macedonio Fernández and Leopoldo Lugones, among others. Born in Mendoza, he moved to Buenos Aires in 1911, where he worked as a theater and music critic. He published books of poems in a modernist style. In 1921 he founded the magazine La Gran Flauta, of which only three issues were published. He was one of the founders and directors of the magazine Martín Fierro, which had a strong influence on the Argentine avant-garde intellectual community of the 1920s. MSS8.
