They are, however, drenched in lurid and unreal colour schemes, shifting the subject matter into surreality and absurdity and informing a contemporary perspective on the classical landscape genre. Henneken plays with the representation of tragicomic figures in his paintings in a similar way. This selection of more than 60 paintings and sculptures from between 2005 and 2010 presents Henneken as a master of bizarre and unbridled artistic humour.
