All edges deckled, more prominently, however, at the foredge. Red and black title page with small black and white illustrative engraving. Illustrated with several photos occasionally throughout in black and white, protected by a tissue leaf, laid in. Frontispiece is a portrait of Ernest Renan, from the painting by Henri Scheffer (1860).
