(28 cm.) iii, 1-80p. Illustrated with numerous black and white drawing and black and white captioned photos. Index. Laid in is a flyer from Elwood Township Carnegie Library, Ridgewood Farm, IL, soliciting donations of high school yearbooks for Ridge Farm. Cream-colored wrappers printed in black and with a vignette in black on the front cover of what appears to be the main street of a small town. Just touches of wear to extremities, small smudge on rear wrapper, corners square and flat, else near fine to fine with no internal markings. This is a novella set in a prairie farm town of the 1930s and 1940s, probably Ridge Farm, Illinois in Vermillion County, where Phil Stuart Ensor (1931-2018) grew up. This is apparently the only book the author wrote. Some chapter titles include the following: A Railroad Man, Grader v. Rx, Paling Around with Zack Gregory, Fishing the South Fork, Prairie View Township High School, The Church of Saved Souls, and The Church of Green Pastures. Inscribed by Author(s).

Maße: ca. 23 cm x 15 cm, in der Platte unten rechts signiert, mit Wasserzeichen im Papier, rückseitig mit Stempel, im Passepartout, (leicht gebräunt)---- James Sidney Ensor war ein belgischer Maler und Zeichner, der neben Gemälden auch eine Vielzahl von Radierungen und Kaltnadelarbeiten schuf. Ensor ist dem Symbolismus zuzuordnen und wird auch als Vorläufer des Expressionismus angesehen. Bekannt wurde er aber als der Maler der Masken - 78 Gramm.

Ensor signed and dated in pencil, "James Ensor 1888" According to Albert Croquez catalog of Ensor engravings (1947) , the head in the lower left corner is that of Jean Jacques Rousseau's son. The image measures about 2 x 3 inches on a 4to sheet, 4to, From the collection of Augusta Bogaerts, life long friend of Ensor. The artist's name "Ensor'' is written in pencil along the verso imprint. Exceptional in association and fine condition. Augusta Bogaerts (1870-1951) and Ensor had a long perhaps ambiguous relationship. She was 18 when they met in 1888, 10 years younger than the 28 year old artist. In that most creative year, of his 1888, Ensor turned his attention to religious themes incorporating his fascination with macabre masks and skeletons. He produced his "Chimera" etching among many engravings and also started to work on his most important painting "The Entry of Christ into Brussels," completed in 1889, considered "scandalous" at the time. Much later in his life, Ensor portrayed Augusta Bogaerts in his painting a "Portrait d'Augusta Bogaerts" (1939) in oil on panel.
