Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Evans, Edmund (Engraved & Printed in colors by) (illustrator). Later Edition. Print year is estimated. No print info or date on copy right or title page. However since publisher's address does NOT include the word Ltd, this book was probably published before 1917 and after the Routledge 1877 edition (original). Title page states A Book of old rhymes with new dresses and The Music by the earliest Masters" . Smaller book- approximately 7.5" by 7.25". Nearly every page is the musical score with lyrics or the rhymes. Each page is illustrated with drawings that surround or border the score and lyrics. There are also full page illustrations. Printed in colour by Edmund Evans. Paper from this period (1900's) is heavier, cotton based so not surprisingly that the interior pages are still bright in appearance. The interior pages are foxing along edges. NO folds, creases or missing signatures in interior pages. No writing. End papers are foxed/ browned with light soil marks ; one closed tear on FEP. The binding is holding well but loose; signatures are attached but there are cracks at various signatures. Spine must be carefully supported when reading. This is NOT an ex-lib nor a remainder nor a recent reprint. Brown cloth covers with a pasted down paper illustration on front and back cover is rubbed and with wear along edges and surface scrapings throughout. Wear to covers have to be expected on a 100+ year old children's book. See pictures. Note: We have a closed shop - so our books are not handled often by the public. Light crease to bottom corners on first few pages, else textblock is exceptionally clean and tight.Some age toning to the edges, staples are in perfect condition, front bottom corner is creased. 62pp. Size: 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. Loosely bound, illustrated brown card boards, brown cloth spine. Scuffing on cover and spine. Browning on the end papers. No jacket, reading copy only with heavy handling wear on the cover.

Size square 12mo, 56 pages. Brown pictorial boards with brown cloth spine section. Condition fair. Covers corners and edges are rubbed and corners rubbed through to the card, the hinges have cracked completely being held together by the cloth spine webbing, the pages are chipped at the edges, preliminary and last pages with small spots, a few light spots to the internal pages here and there but they are generally pretty clean and bright throughout, there is a beautiful copperplate gift inscription dated 1879 to the front free end-paper. To the front cover are gold titles and frame and within the frame gold and black illustration of Hey Diddle Diddle the Cat and the Fiddle. To the rear cover is a gold frame embellished with laurel leaves and babies' faces and within is an illustration of the musical score from Hey Diddle Diddle being held in the beak of a stork wearing a dinner jacket being watched by a little girl and boy also in formal evening wear. Very dark green paste-downs and end-papers. Half-title, extra end-paper with cat and fiddle vignette, frontispiece illustration of Old King Cole, highly decorative title page. The pages are all very decorative and beautifully illustrated. For each nursery rhyme the musical score with the words underneath is printed to the left hand page, within hightly decorative and illustrated border, and the right hand page opposite has a full page illustration of the nursery rhyme.
