A first edition copy of this work of letters of Captain Engelbert who fought during the Peninsular War and was Orderly Officer at Longwood, Napoleon's residence on St. Helena and was in charge of security, having to confirm Napoleon's presence daily.The letters that appear in this volume are from the fourteen months that he was Orderly Officer until the death of Napoleon on 5th May 1821.With fourteen plates and a frontispiece.Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart with some fading to the front board and some light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound with generally bright pages with the odd scattered spot to the odd page. Very Good. book.
