In addition to the fiction featuring their eponymous brilliant amateur detective, the two men acted as editors: as Ellery Queen they edited more than thirty anthologies of crime fiction and true crime, and Dannay founded and for many decades edited Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine, which has been published continuously from 1941 to the present. From 1961, Dannay and Lee also commissioned other authors to write crime thrillers using the Ellery Queen nom de plume, but not featuring Ellery Queen as a character; several juvenile novels were credited to Ellery Queen, Jr. Finally, the prolific duo wrote four mysteries under the pseudonym Barnaby Ross. This is another installment in the series of mystery fiction featuring the detective, Ellery Queen. "Ellery Queen" also happens to be the pseudonym of authors and cousins Frederic Dannay (1905-1982) and Manfred Bennington Lee (1905-1971). Dannay and Lee are perhaps better-known by their professional names, Daniel Nathan and Emanuel Benjamin Lepofsky, respectively. They specialized in detective fiction and wrote about forty novels and short story anthologies featuring the character of Ellery Queen. The Ellery Queen series was one of the most popular and successful mystery fiction series in the twentieth century. The Player on the Other Side was written by Dannay, Lee, and ghost-writer Theodore Sturgeon. This title features Ellery Queen embarking on solving another murder mystery. The character of Queen is the son of police inspector in New York City who began his foray into detective work by helping his father solve murder cases.
