Vor allem aber bietet er Losungen, wie wir in offenbar aussichtslosen Situationen einen neuen Weg in die Freiheit finden konnen. Ein flammender Appell, dass wir unsere Grenzen neu ausloten sollen. Dass wir unser rechtes Mass finden und vor allem, dass wir erkennen, wer wir tatsachlich sein konnten. Die Macht des Einzelnen ist so gross wie sein Gewissen. Diesem Grundsatz folgte auch Abt Burkhard Ellegast ein Leben lang. Weil ihm vor langer Zeit im Stift Melk ein Monch geraten hatte: ,Dann mach es anders." Er hielt sich an diesen Ratschlag, setzte sich mit der Regel des heiligen Benedikt sein Leben lang auseinander und erfuhr dabei, dass diese 1500 Jahre alten Gedanken noch genau so viel Gultigkeit haben wie damals. Heute wird Abt Burkhard von vielen Menschen als Ratgeber, von Paulo Coelho als sein spiritueller Mentor bezeichnet.
