The Secret Pony is by no means a conventional story about children and horses, but will appeal to all those who appreciate an unusual background. Kit, used to her free-and-easy Irish ways, finds her three cousins in Devon repressed and frustrated in a schoolroom dominated by the old family's governess while downstairs their grandparents still mourn the death out hunting of the children's father. With enormous gusto, Miss Stucley shows how Kit frees her cousins from this sheltered, unreal life and introduces them to the normal joys of a healthy childhood.
