Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. Elizabeth Nowell was Thomas Wolfe's literary agent and long-time friend at the time of his death. She also knew both Maxwell Perkins, his editor, well. She has written a traditional biography taking us from Thomas' birth in 1900 through his life until his untimely death at age 38. She uses many quotations from his personal papers she had and also much of what Wolfe wrote of himself in his books. Not only knowing the key players in Thomas Wolfe's life but also being an active participant herself, helps bring the life of Thomas Wolfe, the writer, to life. This was a man who had to write, who said in one letter that if he couldn't he would surely explode. Elizabeth Nowell also was the editor of the letters of Thomas Wolfe. No stated publishing history so presumed first edition, first printing thus. This is a used book. Pages are clean and bright with no markings, notes, or highlighting. Page edges show light foxing. DJ shows significant edge wear and multiple tears; a large chip is missing from the top of the spine; there is no rubbing or soiling and DJ is not price clipped. Previous owner's address label on inside front board, not ex-library. Binding is tight and square with no fading on boards. Corners are bumped. Hinges are firm. An excellent reading copy.
