Autobiography of Tuscaloosa, Alabama physician Dr. Harvey B. Searcy. An eye, ear, nose, and throat specialist who earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan by the age of 23, Dr. Searcy served as president of the Alabama Medical Association (as his father and grandfather had too) as well as the first president of the Alabama Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. The book's title/copyright leaf specifies Birmingham and 1961 without any edition/printing statement but OCLC does not cite any preceding imprints. Colonial Press issued an unstated second printing in 1962 but those copies are easily distinguished by the different date and that the company had shifted operations to Northport, Alabama with that Tuscaloosa suburb specified as the imprint locale.

A geophysicist and physical chemist, Robert Browning Sosman received his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1907, at the age of 26. By 1908 he had joined the Geo-Physical Laboratory of the Carnegie Institution. Dr. Sosman worked at the Geo-Physical Laboratory for 20 years, serving 8 years as Assistant Director. During World War I, his contributions there were instrumental in establishing America's capacity for manufacturing optical glass. In 1928 he left to join the United States Steel Corporation as Assistant Director of Research. Following his retirement from U.S. Steel in 1947, he became visiting professor of Ceramics at Rutgers University. Dr. Sosman was a past president of the American Ceramic Society. In his honor, the Society established The Robert B. Sosman Award, "the highest recognition of scientific accomplishment given by the Basic Science Division. in recognition of outstanding achievement in basic science of an area that results in a significant impact to the field of ceramics." .
