    Full-Leather. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. 1st Edition 1915. The dedication copy with a letter to Lady Muriel who the book is dedicated to tipped in. The letter reads 'Dear Lady Muriel, The war has not brought us tragedy only. Pleasant memories have sprung from it too. And certainly one of the pleasantest for me will always be my association with you in your charity Matinee at the Haymarket. I feel I can commemorate it in no better way than in dedicating this little play to you'. Yours Sincerely Edward Knoblock.' The play was produced on the 2nd July 1915 at the Haymarket, Cast included Helen Haye, Lynn Fontanne, Jean Cadell, Ethel Levey, Lilian Braithwaite, Delysis etc, Lady Muriel Evelyn Vernon Paget 1876-1938 was a British philanthropist and humanitarian relief worker, initially based in London, and later in Eastern and Central Europe. She was made an OBE in 1918 and promoted to CBE in 1938. She received awards in recognition of her humanitarian work from the governments of Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Estonia, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, and Imperial Russia. In 1916 she was invested as a Dame of Grace of the Order of St John. Edward Knoblock 1874-1945 was a playwright and novelist, originally American and later a naturalised British citizen. He wrote numerous plays, often at the rate of two or three a year, of which the most successful were Kismet (1911) and Milestones (1912, co-written with Arnold Bennett). Many of his plays were collaborations, with, among others, Vicki Baum, Beverley Nichols, J. B. Priestley and Vita Sackville-West. After serving in the British armed forces during the First World War, he combined his theatrical career with work on films, both in Hollywood and the UK. He lived most of his adult life in London, where he died in 1945 at the age of 71. A lovely Full leather Contemporary Binding from Edwardian period. Book is very good and in bright condition.
