Hardcover. Condition: Fair. 4th Edition. See photos for condition details: hardcover, volume 1 ONLY of a two-volume set. The exterior binding is original but heavily worn. There is spotting and scuffing on all sides with chipping to the spine edges, with the worst being the top edge (pictured). Both interior hinges at boards show cracking, with the rear hinge being the worst. The interior binding is secure but brittle. Some of the areas started to crack when the book was opened, such as shown at page 176/177. The end pages and pastedowns show spotting and foxing with the front pastedown having some faint penciling residue in the upper area. This is the only handwriting found in the book and there are no library markings. The half title and title page both show chips along the top edge, which is the only tears found. The book contains many color plates which appear still have their tissue guards present. The rear of the book still contains the February, 1956 edition of "Mr. H. Bailliere's Catalogue of Medical, Chemical, and Scientific Works", which is a smaller 16 page booklet of advertisements. The interior pages are toned and shows foxing and smudge marks, exterior page edges are darkened, but the pages are of a heavier bond. Please note: this is volume 1 only.
