Softcover. Condition: Good. Tenniel, John (illustrator). I had sent my heroine straight down a rabbit-hole. without the least idea what was to happen afterwards,' wrote Charles Dodgson, describing how Alice was conjured up one 'golden afternoon' in 1862 to entertain his child-friend Alice Liddell. His dream worlds of nonsensical Wonderland and the back-to-front Looking-Glass kingdom depict order turned upside-down: a baby turns into a pig, time is abandoned at a disordered tea-party and a chaotic game of chess makes a seven-year-old girl a Queen. But amongst the anarchic humour and sparkling word play, puzzles, paradoxes and riddles, are poignant moments of elegiac nostalgia for lost childhood. Foxing to front introduction page. 357 pages. Cover has a few creases. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilogram. Category: Children's::Children's Fiction; Children; ISBN/EAN: 9780141439761. Inventory No: 273801.

First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Printed in the U.S.A. [Date from the copyright page.] First Printing. Frontispiece, Foreword, Introduction, Footnotes, 17 Figures (include one black-and-white plate from the Codex Tro-Cortesianus), Bibliography, Index; xi, 278 pages. The original green cloth is very good, with touches of rubbing to spine ends and corners tips; yellow and white lettering is bright on the spine and upper board. The interior is creamy-bright, despite pale toning to the endpapers; HOWEVER, please note: my father who taught philosophy for nearly half a century left penciling throughout---heavy on a dozen pages, absent on perhaps two hundred. The unclipped dust jacket has several tears and chips and a sunned spine; all lettering still legible. [Please see my 9 images of the actual book.] "I find it gratuitous to assume that a Hopi who knows only the Hopi language and the cultural ideas of his own society has the same notions, often supposed to be intuitions, of time and space that we have, and that are generally assumed to be universal. . . ." (Page 57) As with every book from my father's collection, tipped-in at the front is the small, attractive, acid-free bookplate pictured on my homepage. All books are wrapped with special care and are shipped promptly with tracking; international sales sent via global priority, also with tracking.
