Paperback. Condition: Used; Good. The Penguin Book of English Verse is a well-known and much-loved classic with its beautifully patterned red covers. The Chief if not the only end of poetry, Dryden said, is to delight. It is with this end always in view that the following selection of English poetry has been made. A choice from all the poetry written in English verse during the past four hundred years necessarily involves compromise of one kind or another if a satisfactory balance is to be maintained between rival claims and interests. Just one of the many antique, rare and obscure books available on our online vintage bookstore. Title: The Penguin Book of English Verse Author: Various, edited by John Hayward Publisher: Penguin Publication Date: 1963 Format: Paperback Condition: This book is in good condition for its age.
