A near fine clean tightly bound copy of this scarce and charming work on the Natural History of Godalming. Ex Libris, Linley Blathwayt with his fine engraved bookplate to upper pastedown. Linley Blathwayt was born in 1839. He joined the British Indian Army and served in India for many years. Blathwayt was also a naturalist with wide interests, and also a distinguished entomologist. Waring Kidd was a Godalming naturalist and taxidermist known as Rusticus. Waring Kidd was thought to be responsible for naming Godalming as the Valley of the Nightingales. Some of the wood engravings for this work were carried out by Thomas Bewick.
