"Whether it's a guy in Miami Beach who goes to a dance or it's someone who's dying in Ethiopia, they're the unfamous people that I care about. I feel a certain purity in them that's real, and I want to document their lives.".

Meyerowitz: "I think the reasons for going to a place are as normal as those for doing anything else. The way you respond when you're there is more specific. . . . You are aligned with the inner coordinates of your being, and you suddenly feel in the right place. It may be the slant of the light, it may be even a small, something not visible; you may feel yourself rooted to the spot where suddenly there's a smell of salt water mixed with roses, and it's got your number.".
