Three-Quarter Leather. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. The rare First Edition in a armorial binding with three bookplates helping to trace it's ownership, and perceived value early on. This gripping maritime novel by English novelist and magazine editor, Edward Howard, has nine plates across the volumes by Auguste Hervieu and… for a long time was attributed to Captain Marryat. as he edited the 'Metropolitan Magazine' together with Howard, a former shipmate, and, in fact, edited this work, although Howard was the true author. The binding and bookplate on the inside board indicate an aristocratic lineage, but I have not been able to identify which family. Extra Postage For all but Media. Illustrated by Auguste Hervieu (illustrator).
