We would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people involved in havin…g this project come to fruition. First of all, Agnes Marshall Walker, Dr. Walker's widow, worked hand in hand with him in the development of the manuscript, many portions of which she typed herself. She is responsible for the original idea of having the book published and for providing the manuscript, the illustrations, and the material that appears in the appendix and many of the references. She has fostered the development of virtually every phase of this project and all of us should be grateful that this work has resulted in a fitting tribute to an outstanding neuroscientist. The publication of the book has been facilitated by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS).The AANS Publications Committee, chaired first by Dr. Dan Barrow and then by Dr. Warren Selman, approved the concept of developing and publishing the book, and once again the project could not have been completed without the support of the organization and the many skilled people who work in the area of publications and publications development. In Baltimore, Dr. George Udvarhelyi worked on the manuscript and on the references and was assisted by the professionals at the Welch Memorial Library at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
