Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Values and their application are a continuing area of concern for those involved in work with children and families. This book provides a means of understanding models of social welfare and children's services, and relating these to the challenges of practice. Key debates about values in children's services are identified and examined, in their legislative, policy and practice contexts. The text develops a range of approaches to practice, utilizing case examples to illustrate the challenges, and to help practitioners with the task of reconciling competing expectations in their work with children. New to this Edition: - Increased coverage of authoritarian states and hybrid regimes - A wider range of international case studies than ever before, particularly including expanded coverage of Latin America and Africa - A resource-packed companion website featuring student and lecturer materials such as interactive quizzes, video tutorials, essay papers, testbanks and an exclusive web-only chapter on Political Economy. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. This is a thoroughly revised edition of Roger Smith's book published in 2003. The book provides a comprehensive and critical overview of the youth justice system. It begins by setting the youth justice system in historical context, and then assesses the impact of political ideas and influence on both the structural arrangements for delivering youth justice (such as the Youth Justice Board and Youth Offending Teams) and practice initiatives (such as moves to implement forms of restorative justice). Taken together, these present serious challenges to those delivering youth justice. The book goes on to offer a critique of current developments, explores the options open to practitioners and service providers, and some of the possibilities for positive intervention. Finally, a detailed agenda for improvement at all levels is set out. This new edition offers an up-to date analysis of the most recent developments and trends, including the increased reliance on Anti-Social Behaviour Orders to control the behaviour of young people. This book will be a resource for youth justice practitioners and essential to students taking courses in youth crime and youth justice. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Carlisle Barracks was established by the British Army in 1757 to support operations against the French during the French and Indian War. During the Revolutionary War, the post supported Washington's army against the British. After the post was burned by Confederate forces during the Civil War, it was rebuilt and served as the U.S. Army's Cavalry School until 1871, when the post was closed. In 1879, the Carlisle Indian Industrial School opened at the post to educate Native American children. This school operated until 1918, when the U.S. Army resumed control of the post and opened a hospital to care for wounded World War I soldiers. The U.S. Army Field Medical School opened there in 1920 and remained until that function was relocated in 1946. In 1951, the U.S. Army War College moved to Carlisle Barracks, where it remains. Using vintage photographs, Carlisle Barracks chronicles how for more than 250 years this post has supported military operations and training and continues to do so today.
